Ode, a body of work created for the Modern Art 2010 group show in Boise, Idaho.
Ode is an exploration of the constancy of information. I began with the hypothesis that music and color have the same underlying structure. Converting a harmonious melody to its analog on the color spectrum should yield harmonious color relationships.
To test this idea, I superimposed the major scale over the color spectrum, assigning each note a specific hue. As the pitch increases, so does the lightness of the color.
The sculpture was designed around Mozart’s Symphony No 25 in G minor, K. The two-dimensional pieces were created by selecting a small number of measures from the music with interesting melodic leaps and progressions.
